A peanut tote is a specific style of bulk bag designed by the American Peanut Council for transporting in-shell, red skin, blanched, and split peanut kernels. The APC designed and implemented this bag specification to promote uniformity, efficiency, and safety within their industry.
The APC requires all fabric components of the peanut tote to be breathable or air permeable. Specifically, the minimum standard for fabric air permeability is 40CFM. This is achieved by weaving fabric in a manner that leaves small gaps between the PP tapes. Breathable FIBC fabric inhibits mold and promotes freshness.
In 2001, the APC’s Packaging & Handling Task Force established uniform specifications and procedures for tote bag manufacturers that allow the industry to improve hygiene, reduced costs, and ensure peanut quality. Companies interested in supplying tote bags to the U.S. peanut industry must have their products certified by APC before they can began selling products to the industry.
