As mentioned previously in our post on pasted valve bags, the multi-wall paper bag supply chain has been disrupted to a degree not seen in decades. Raw material shortages, labor shortages, and shipping backlogs are a few of the conditions affecting manufacturers’ and distributors’ ability to make on-time delivery.
Prices show little signs of abating in 2022. High volume multi-wall open mouth bag users are experiencing continual delivery delays. For large bag users this can mean running out of bags and shutting down production for days or weeks. Time and time again we hear horror stories where suppliers have left their customers high and dry. Due to the unique nature of the industrial bag market, there are often little to no alternatives available for immediate delivery. Southern Packaging recognizes this issue and is making the biggest emergency stock PBOM and SOM commitment in its history.
How do I avoid running out of pinch bottom and sewn open mouth bags when deliveries are late?
Shutting down production due to lack of packaging is a plant manager’s worst nightmare. However, this can all be avoided by utilizing Southern Packaging’s robust stock pinch bottom open mouth and sewn open mouth bag inventory.
We source multi-wall open mouth bags from best-in-class suppliers located in the United States and Mexico. Our primary PBOM and SOM suppliers are in the United States. Each year we distribute millions of multi-wall PVSE, PBOM, and SOM bags throughout the United States and Canada.
Our stock bag volumes range from .5 cubic feet to 2+ cubic feet. This allows us to support a wide variety of customers. Bags are made in food-grade facilities and carry proper certifications including AIB, FSSC, and BRCGS.
What stock open mouth bag sizes does Southern Packaging offer?
We currently warehouse 1.75 million multi-wall paper bags. Of these, many are plain stock PBOM and SOM that are suitable for a broad range of products including flour, sugar, feed, seed, minerals, and chemicals.

What PBOM and SOM bag constructions do you offer?
We offer open mouth bags made with natural kraft paper. Many of our bags are equipped with a PE film barrier. The film is buried between the plies. However, we can produce orders with film in the 1st position (i.e. the film directly contacts the product being filled in the bag).
Bags are generally plain brown, but we also offer plain bleached white bags.
Do you offer plastic open mouth bags?
We offer woven plastic sewn open mouth bags. They come in a variety of sizes and constructions. Our most commonly available bag construction is BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene). For more information on our high quality plastic bags visit our poly bag page.
What is your minimum order quantity?
We are a wholesaler. As such, we sell in full pallet quantities only. Depending on the bag size and construction, most paper open mouth bags are palletized 1,500 - 2,500 bags per pallet
How quickly can you deliver?
Customer setup generally takes 15 minutes. Typically, we can ship out stock bags on the same day that they are ordered. Transit time to most locations in the U.S. is 1-3 business days.
Do you ship to Canada?
Yes. We support customers all throughout Canada with multi-wall paper bags. Canadian customers will need to arrange their own freight from our Texas warehouses.
How are you handling bag disruptions in 2022?
We are doubling our stock inventory toward the end of 2021 and early 2022. Across all bag types, we currently have 7 million stock bags on order to support customers needing plain bags.
Do you offer paper bag styles other than open mouth?
Yes, we offer pasted valve bags and webb-pinch bags.
What if I need a custom size or printed bags?
We are happy to provide high-quality custom bags. Lead time on custom orders is currently 8-15 weeks. MOQ on custom orders is 20,000 bags. This is 20,000 per print and per size. There are no exceptions to the MOQ.
